This story tells of one woman’s hilarious and poignant journey through various “kinds” of Judaism. Raised in a Jewish area of Mexico City but relocated to a nearby suburb, Erika finds her new home has “no Jews, no temple, and no challah.” Her parents enroll their daughters in the only private school in town—a Catholic school, where Erika gets outed as a Jew on her first day at chapel. Later, she goes to college in New York, where her friends are “super Jews” and a trip to Israel changes her life. She is introduced to Chabad and is soon wearing long sleeves and keeping kosher. Erika ultimately moves to Miami, settles in a Mexican neighborhood, and marries a Jewish doctor who eats moo-shoo pork and trims a Christmas tree. This Mexi-Jew’s attempts to balance all the competing religions and cultures in her life make for a truly tasty treat.
