Kimchee on the Seder Plate | The Braid
6m 15s
The daughter of a South Korean mother and a Jewish father grows up as one of the few school-aged Jews in Tacoma, Washington. On Shabbat, her family substitutes rice for unlocatable challah and kimchi, a Korean cabbage, for the bitter herbs on their Seder plate. Being the daughter of a mixed marriage causes some pain, especially when she visits Israel, where she feels like an outsider, even when she prays at synagogue or a holy place. In frustration, she tries to reject her Judaism, only to find this
impossible. Her surprising career choice ultimately leads her to the pinnacle of Jewish success.
