Meshi Zahav
A new documentary series, starting Tuesday, December 9 | Viewer discretion advised
Publicly, Yehuda Meshi Zahav was a symbol of co-existence between the ultra-Orthodox community and the wider Israeli society. Once a leader of anti-government protests in Jerusalem's Mea Shearim neighborhood, he went on to founding ZAKA — one of Israel's largest NGOs — and receiving the Israel Prize, the country's highest civil honor.
Pulling the thread of a decades’ long conspiracy of silence, two Israeli journalists set out to dismantle Meshi Zahav’s public image to uncover a disturbing truth. For decades, Meshi Zahav used his power, money, and public connections to hide a pattern of systematic sexual abuse he had committed over several decades.
Combining never-before-seen testimonies, archival footage, and precise editing, the documentary unpacks how the myth of benevolence and sacrifice served as a smokescreen for atrocious crimes.
