Babka
In the heart of Hasidic Williamsburg, Brooklyn, Moishe (Saul Rubinek), a newly blind Jewish Orthodox baker, forms an unlikely friendship with Jesus (Jonny Beauchamp), a queer Catholic Latino guide dog trainer. Taking his first steps outside with Bear, Moishe’s German Shepherd guide dog, the three embark on an eye-opening journey to overcome personal and cultural barriers in Moishe’s quest to reopen his beloved bakery.
Written and directed by Serena Dykman, a New York based filmmaker who uses storytelling to connect people through humor, heart and humanity, 'Babka' was a 2025 nominee for a Humanitas Prize for Best Short Film, and won a 2026 Gold Telly Award, among its many recognitions.
